Yes, I realize that this book came out in April and I am just now getting around to reading and reviewing it. Well …. I have been busy. Even now as I sit here typing this, Emily is harping at me that she is hungry and that we don’t have any food in this house and “do you have five dollars so I can walk to the store and get me something good to eat”. To which I answer, “no, I don’t have $5 and we have cereal and we have bread to make toast with”. She rolls her eyes and says “I already ate toast and it was disgusting and you know that I don’t like cereal” … and before my brain filter kicked in, I said ” and that is exactly why we buy cereal, because we know that you don’t like it and we love to hear you standing in the kitchen slamming cabinet doors, opening and closing the refrigerator for the thirty-second time expecting your favorite foods to magically appear and then stomping up the stairs when I refuse to give you money to buy something else … BECAUSE EVERY DECISION WE MAKE IN THIS HOUSE REVOLVES AROUND YOU.”
She slammed the refrigerator door and stomped upstairs …. and now I have the peace and quiet needed to finish writing this.
Bossypants is a really fast read …. I finished it in about four days and can honestly say that I enjoyed it in a lighthearted romp kind of way (not that I have ever actually gone on a lighthearted romp – but that is on my bucket list). There were no scandalous confessions, no Hollywood type cat-fights, and no tales of drunken orgies. It was exactly what you would expect from Tina Fey – a book chock full of snarky goodness that made you feel better about being a smart ass.
Some chapters, like the one where she praises the writers of 30 Rock, were laugh outloud funny while others just strolled merrily along with tales of her childhood, how she was hired as a writer for Saturday Night Live, and her gig as Sarah Palin.
To be honest, I expected more humor, but was not disappointed in the book overall. So if you are needing something to read while waiting for the results of your MRI … then get this one.
