Remember us refinancing the house and trying really hard to get all of our finances in order? Well ….. it was a great idea. It was one of the best ideas in the history of all ideas … and we were so excited to pay off some credit cards … or so we thought.
WARNING! RANT AHEAD !!!
So I logged into Derek’s Capital One account today … just to make sure that it really showed a zero balance. Guess what? IT DOESN’T !!!
AFTER we paid off the card, they charged us accrued interest of $17.92, and an annual membership fee of $39.00 … then when we didn’t make a payment, because well … silly us thought that paying off the balance of the card actually meant that it was PAID OFF !!! – they charged us a late fee of $22.00 !!!
So then I log in to check Derek’s Chase card account and guess what? YOU GUESSED RIGHT !!! THAT ONE HAS A BALANCE FOR INTEREST AND A LATE CHARGE TOO !!!
I AM SO MAD RIGHT NOW THAT I COULD JUST SCREAM …. AND WRITE IN ALL CAPS !!!
WHEN DOES IT EVER END ???

That happened to us, too, with Capital One but when I called and complained/explained, they reversed the charges so it’s definitely worth a try.
Derek is going to call them tomorrow …. having to pay $39 just to have their credit card is a big bunch of BS !
Only time you can be sure it’s done is if you close the account. Which can hurt your credit. It sucks. You could also try to call and see if you can switch to a no-fee card if you want to keep the account open.

We kept them open so that it wouldn’t hurt our credit score …. I am kicking myself for not checking the balances a week ago.
Call them and complain. This happened to us shortly after Mark and I got married. He called them on the phone demanding to know why we were still getting charges when we had paid off the balance.

The cards are in Derek’s name, but I think that I am a co-owner on them … if he can’t get anywhere with them then I am going to let loose!
I hate it when things like that happen makes one want to scream and rant oh yeah you did that so all good but really I do hope after you make the next payment that it is done and finished if not you may have to ring the company and ask them what the hell is going on…………..

Derek called Capital One and they refused to switch us to a card that doesn’t have a membership fee …. so he told them to close the account! THOSE RAT BASTARDS !!!
No, seriously. Yesterday. I got into it with the credit card gal..
Gal: “It’s in your card member agreement.”
Me: “Do you read every word of your cardmember agreements?”
Gal: [long pause] “yes.”
Me: “No, really.”
Gal: “I do.”
They are EVIL. It has just become my mission in life to pay them off and call them up and tell them every time I pay cash for a major purchase.

If everybody actually read those agreements, the credit card companies wouldn’t have any customers left.
