When we decided last year to start planning a big trip to VEGAS (yes, it does have to be in all caps) we didn’t want to use the credit cards to fund any of it. So we started saving a certain amount of money each month and put it into a savings account, where we are less likely to touch it. Right now we have enough saved to pay for the hotel room and the gas for the drive out there and back.
Yesterday I came up with a brilliant plan to save for our food and spending money.
For every weekend that we stay home from now until we leave, which is approximately 18 weekends, we will pay ourselves at least $50 and will transfer the money into the savings account the Monday following the weekend that we stayed home. If we are able to do it every weekend, which is probably impossible, then we will have an extra $900 to spend on the trip.
Let’s see how we do …

The kids are going to hate it that we aren’t going to waste money on going to movies that we don’t really want to see and going out to eat … but that’s just too darn bad.
