A few days after Riley started working part-time for a guy in town, people started telling us to “watch out for this guy”. I know how rumors work in a small town so Derek and I just told Riley that if he ever felt uncomfortable around this guy and wanted to quit then we wouldn’t say anything about quitting to him. Plus, Riley is a pretty big kid and if somebody wanted to “start shit” with him, we think that Riley could fight a good fight.
Yesterday, I got a phone call from a lady whose son also works for this guy. Evidently the guy said or did something around the kid that made him feel uncomfortable and the kid quit. So I got to ask my son questions that no mother should ever have to ask their son.
Everything’s okay …. nobody was touched and nothing awful was said, but the boys have both quit working for this guy.
The whole situation has left me feeling very torn. On one hand, if anybody EVER hurt my children, I would go after them like a cracked out zombie wanting brains. On the other hand, I have been on the wrong side of accusations and it’s not a good place to be.
I can’t say that I am glad that this happened, because no parent wants their kids to be in any situation where they fear someone, but it has taught my son what to do when they think somebody is acting inappropriately AND it has given me the ability to in some twisted way empathize with the people on the other side of my situation.

Yes I can understand how you feel, no parent wants their child harmed in any way shape or form…………..sometimes though rumours can really do a lot of damage

Oh believe me … I know personally how harmful rumors can be. That’s why we let him go to work there for a while …. UNTIL the guy started making my son feel weird.
