They Just Don’t Get It

Last night all of the kids were gone to the park, which really peeved Derek off because he was at work and I had the house all to myself.  muahahahahaha

I did my 30 minutes of Free Step on the Wii Fat, made my dinner, locked the doors and headed up the stairs to watch some trashy TV.  I heard thumping.  Loud thumping.  Coming from upstairs.  My heart stopped.  I was on the Wii Fat in the living room and I would have heard the backdoor open if somebody had come in the house.  What the hell could it be?  I walked up a few more stairs and yelled “HEEEEEEEEEEEELLO ???” … no answer just more thumping.

About half way up the stairs, I recognized the sound.

We’ve had the gerbils for about a year now.  They were birthday presents for Emily and Beth last year, even though Emily is really the only one taking care of them.  We predicted that would happen, but she didn’t care.  I just hope that Beth doesn’t show up on Emily’s porch someday dragging all of the kids she doesn’t want to feed or clean up after … because Emily would take them.  Wait … better Emily’s porch than mine.

Beth insisted when we bought the gerbils that they have a wheel, even though the lady at the pet store told her that they wouldn’t know what to do with it or that their tails might get caught in it.  We bought a wheel.  Every single time Emily cleans the gerbil cage, she puts the wheel back in there … and every single time they do this with it

… then they bash it into the side of the tank until I get so tired of hearing it that I take the wheel away from them.  We have told Emily a hundred times that they are not going to magically figure this out, but she keeps insisting they will, but after they scared me last night they won’t have another chance.

Anybody want to take a wild guess where that wheel is today?
