For a dear friend who feels like the world has turned against her
and she needs to hide. Take all the time you need for you, but
keep the fire burning even when you have to let it wait for a while.
She’s still here.
Her embers still burn.
They’re hidden under ash right now. A lot of ash. Piles and mountains of ash.
But the fire is still there. The spark hasn’t left. It may have dimmed, but it’s not out.
It’s smoldering deep down.
Others have tried to drown the glow. Tried to blow it out. But the embers still burn.
She’s tired … exhausted really. Some days it’s all she can be. But she’s not defeated … not giving up.
She’s been talked about. She’s been lied about. She’s cried about it. Sometimes for days.
But no matter what they say, she knows what she has to do. She has to keep the flame alive.
She has to.
When life has beaten you up sometimes you have to take a break from your passions and just be kind to yourself.
Don’t give up on your passions … your flame … your embers. Let them sit and smolder, but don’t give up on them. Don’t EVER give up.
The most inspirational people are the ones who’ve been through hell and back. The ones who spent so long there they still smell of smoke. The ones who took those flames and turned them into flames of passion.
Every day I read the Serenity Prayer. Sometimes several times a day.
I struggle with the things I cannot change, but it’s getting better. I have to let it go.
Look for a way to let go of the things you can’t do anything about and use your smoldering embers to build a new life, a new way, based on your passions … the things you CAN change.
The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the SERENITY to accept the things I cannot change,
the COURAGE to change the things I can
and the WISDOM to know the difference.
