Are you (Self) Aware of your Actions?

You know deep down that actions really DO speak louder than words.

 Your words may be saying things like …

“I’ve got to clean my house and get rid of this junk”

“I’m so exhausted.  I really need some help”

“I’m sooooooooooooo busy. I can’t possibly add anything else to my list”

Or are your actions actually keeping you from leading a more simplified life?

I’ve been there too.  As a “control freak” type personality, I often have trouble with letting people help me get things done or when they do help, I try to micromanage everything they do to the point they get frustrated and quit.  Are you the same way?

Remember that you can have peace or perfection.  Not both.  Sometimes we have to allow things to just be good enough so that they actually get done, even if it’s not up to our standards or done how we would do them.

If you find yourself doing any of these things …

  • Complaining that nobody helps you, but insisting on it being done your way
  • Micromanaging what other people are doing after they offer to help
  • Saying “yes” to things you don’t have the time or energy for just to keep the peace or because you think they won’t like you if you say “no”
  • Distracting yourself with mindless things like reading news articles you care nothing about, watching TV shows you have no real interest in, or scrolling through social media for hours

… then your actions definitely do NOT match what you’re saying about wanting to reduce the stress in your life and simplify things. 

Awareness is the first (and probably most important) step.  You have to catch yourself when you start taking these actions and do what needs to be done so your actions actually match your words (your goals for your life).

It will take some time to change, but the peace that will come from living a simplified life is worth making a few changes to how you do things.
