My Word for 2018

What word can you use to motivate yourself in 2018?  What word summarizes something you can do (or not do) that will make your life better in some way?

I had several colorful words to describe 2017 AFTER it was all over.  It just wasn’t a fantabulous year.

But I’m determined to change how I perceive life in 2018.

During my Paxilated, bat shit crazy days I had absolutely no patience for pretty much anything.  I was short tempered.  I was hateful.  I was a real bitch.  I was always anxious about something.  Always trying to control other people.  Always looking for faults in others.  ALWAYS throwing a fit of some sort to try and get my way … and when I didn’t … oh honey … it was beyond bad.

The anxiety I developed while on Paxil and Ambien became an automatic response.  I worried and fretted over not being able to control situations and other people.  It got a million times worse during withdrawal.

A good friend helped me overcome my anxiety and see it as a waste of time.  I know that sounds awful … especially for people who are working through it, but it’s oh so true.  Anxiety serves absolutely no purpose other than to cause your mind and body to respond to things that might NEVER happen.  It’s living in the future.  A future that’s completely made up.

It took a long time and a lot of work for me to overcome it and it still creeps in every once in a while in the form of worry or the jitters, but I’ve learned what to do and can just let it pass.

But I need to work more on living in the moment.  Not worrying about things that probably aren’t going to happen anyway or not happen the way I imagine they will.  Not replaying things I cannot change.  Not wasting time and energy on the past or the might be future.

So my word for 2018 is ….

I will work on what’s going on in my life NOW.  I will work to stop multitasking and concentrate on what’s in front of me NOW.  I will cherish what’s going on in my life NOW.  I will keep working towards a better future, but I will appreciate the NOW.

One of my favorite quotes from an online group I’m in is taped to my desk

“Do it now … you can’t build a reputation on what you’re going to do”

My goal for 2018 is to live that quote … every single day.
