A few weeks ago I read a magazine article about thankfulness and gratitude. I wish I could remember which one it was, but I read so many it’s hard to keep track.
But I did get the point of the story. That we use the word “thankful” in a somewhat careless manner. Sitting around a table with family and friends, we might list off things we say we’re thankful for:
We say those things, but do we take the time to really understand what it means to appreciate them. The article gave me a whole new way of looking at it.
What if you didn’t have those things?
What if you had absolutely nobody to talk to …. EVER?
What if you no longer had a home and had to sleep on the street?
What if you lost your job and didn’t have any way to get another one?
What if you suddenly became very ill with no hope of getting better?
Would you appreciate the things you had more AFTER they were taken from you? Of course you would.
So why don’t we all take the time to really be grateful for the people and things we have NOW.
Take some time in the next few days to be truly thankful for what you’ve been blessed with by considering what you’re life would be like without those blessings.
